Artist
Beth Nelson

Beth worked closely with Thérèse Meyer on each and every painting in order to express and represent the personal real-life memories, people and events that Thérèse has woven into her story. Beth who lives at lower Beechmont in the Gold Coast Hinterland - Australia, was born in New Zealand and came to Australia 35 years ago. She is a former full-time teacher who has taught in three countries and four Australian States. She began painting seriously in the 1960's and over the years has gained much from many renowned artist - tutors including Colin Wheeler, Margaret Cowling, Robert Wade, Tom Hill and Greg Allen. Beth exhibits successfully in solo and shared exhibitions and displays in selected local venues. She is a member of the Watercolour Society of Queensland and in her retirement is using her painting skills to help raise funds for the Back Creek Gorge Conservation Association Inc, a not for-profit community group whose aims are: "To preserve, promote and enhance all the heritage values of Back Greek Gorge - the natural, social, aesthetic and historical national estate values of this site"

(This area is listed by the Australian Heritage Commission on the Register of the National Estate - Data base No. 014735)

Much of Beth's work depicts this beautiful area near Beechmont, S.E. Queensland, Australia, with its waterfalls, creek and gorge scenery, including "Killarney Glen" with its "Killarney Falls", picnic ground and pioneer style buildings. Killarney Glen also contains both eucalypt and rainforest including a significant rainforest restoration in a former banana plantation. This restoration was carried out by the Fitzgerald family, the former owners and occupiers. The Killarney Glen site in Back Creek Gorge is part of the Canungra Army Training Area and is open to the public for approx. 9 months of the year when not required for Military training.

Beth congratulates Thérèse on the wonderful fulfilment of her dream and expresses heartfelt thanks to her for her generosity – " Thérèse is to us all an inspiration in keeping alive what is best about the human spirit "
